Updates for Week Oct 11th
This week, we progressed the finer details of the tapes' contents, designed the puzzle mechanics via "branching objects", and finalized the overarching high-level story of the main character. Enhancements such as music, fixing colliders for irregularly shaped objects, and adding confirmation noise upon puzzle complete were implemented.
Progress
- Held two team meetings and created design document to:
- discuss the overarching story of our main character/premise of the game and the idea of two possible endings given player's choices
- finalize background stories for each character to add some depth to their personalities
- solidify key items for the attic scene
- solidify the contents of all the tapes
- solidify our game loop to include 'branching objects', which is the main glitch in the tape. Placing an object in the appropriate location in real life will cause the game to branch off into two possible endings. Adding more key items on that respective branch will complete the tape with one ending. The final game ending is based on the player's decisions in how they choose to end the tapes.
- Level Design completed: created map of game loop for both tapes
- finalize game mechanics
- include push/pull mechanic not previously discussed
- include inspecting object for finer details
- include precise positioning and rotation of light objects when placing back down
- ability to create printouts of scenes from tape on television
- discuss desired audio/background music themes
- discuss layout of the attic and where some of the heavy/light objects will start off at start of game
- New background music has been created
- Room layout/Floor map has been designed for the attic
- HUD sketches were designed
- Implementation
- On puzzle complete(all objects placed in right location), a confirmation noise is played and a particle effect is emitted from the TV. The new tape replaces the corrupted tape on the TV.
- Mesh colliders were improved, and players can now walk near irregularly shaped objects, colliding with them at realistic angles
- A start screen was implemented
- The InputSystem map was updated and tested for controller support
